Ship Shape TV Work Party Continues Remodeling TACO Marine Project Boat

The TACO Marine Project Boat is nearly complete! On Tuesday, Jan. 16, representatives from TACO, Ship Shape TV and AA Boat Top & Canvas came together for a work party on Project Boat – plumbing the head, covering edges with Infinity Welt, installing batteries and coating the stainless-steel railing and hardtop frame with a metal protectant, to name a few.

One of the products used to plumb the head was sanitized PVC tubing. Hayden Greviskis from Ship Shape TV said it’s helpful to place the tubing in the sun for several minutes prior to installation. The sun warms the tubing, making it more pliable and easier to feed through the chase way.

For hiding material edges inside the cabin, John Adinolfe from AA Boat Tops & Canvas used a new product he designed called Infinity Welt, a ¾-inch welt cord wrapped inside Infinity woven vinyl material. Check out the video below where Adinolfe showcases the Infinity Welt applications.

Metal protectants are designed to coat structural hardware from the wear and tear of saltwater and other environmental factors. On a boat, it is recommended a metal protectant is applied every six to 12 months, said Mike Strickland, Ship Shape TV technician. Depending on the product used, a protectant can be applied to aluminum, polished aluminum, stainless steel, copper, brass or any other metal to prevent staining and discoloration.

To bring Project Boat’s wiring and plumbing up to date, a few holes were drilled inside various compartments. To protect the hull on the inside, TACO Marine Category Product Manager Jose Chao applied 50/50 epoxy primer to the newly-made holes – a combination of epoxy resin and hardener applied to a dry surface making it waterproof. For more information, watch the video below.

Now that the boat’s almost complete, it’s heading to the Pacer Group workshop for electrical wiring, followed by on-the-water tests with a representative from Yamaha Outboards. In a few short weeks, Project Boat winner Roger LeFranc will get the keys to his newly-remodeled Pursuit 2650 and, as he plans, will hit the fishing tournament circuit throughout Florida.

In the coming weeks, the professionals from Ship Shape TV will be applying the finishing touches to the TACO Marine Project Boat, such as painting inside the bilge and hatches, and conducting on-the-water tests. Pretty soon, LeFranc will be cruising into the Florida sunset aboard his new boat, which he plans to name “Justin Time,” after his son.

“It’s got plenty of places it’s going to see,” said LeFranc, who is planning many fishing trips aboard Project Boat in the near future. “Sailfish season is right around the corner.”

Project Boat Continues Legacy of Logan: An open letter from Mike Kushner of TACO Metals

The TACO Marine Project Boat represents a full transformation of a tired 28-year-old boat into a brand new, custom beauty – showcasing the latest and greatest products from TACO and dozens of other leading marine product manufacturers. Yet this industry-wide collaboration represents so much more than just a great remodeling venture – it also represents hope, caring for others, giving back and continuing the legacy of an amazing young man.

Project Boat began more than two years ago as a bold idea to raise money for charity – specifically, the I’M LOGAN IT Foundation, which provides support to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and scholarships to deserving students.

Logan volunteered for the JDRF – parking cars in a full tuxedo.

I’M LOGAN IT was created in memory of Logan Matthew Kushner, who passed away in 2012. Logan left behind a legacy dedicated to education, team sports and helping others.

Logan never knew a stranger. His most important qualities were caring about people and positively impacting the lives of others. His smiles, hugs and enthusiasm for life were genuine. Logan is dearly missed.

As a 59-year-old business founded on family principles, TACO has always strived to develop more than just business agreements with our customers, but rather long-standing relationships and friendships – values Logan emulated throughout his life.

All proceeds from every Project Boat raffle ticket donation are given to the I’M LOGAN IT Foundation – helping kids in need and striving to make a positive impact in the lives of others. The Foundation’s goal is to remind us to always give 150 percent effort in everything we do and to always be there to lend a hand to those in need – just like Logan did.

Please lend your support by making a donation for a chance to win this unique custom boat and by sharing Project Boat with all others you know who may be interested. For additional information please visit go.rallyup.com/projectboat.

Sincerely,

Mike Kushner
